Broadband Virtual-Stub Doherty Power Amplifier Using Asymmetric Structure

The load networks of advanced Doherty power amplifiers (DPAs) have traditionally been designed according to the ABCD parameters. In this paper, design conditions as an impedance transformation condition and effective electrical length were used output matching (OMNs) for carrier peaking virtual-stub DPAs (VS-DPAs). An optimization method was proposed that specifically constructed impedances amplifier at low level broadband characteristics through load-pull simulation. Using optimized design, compact OMNs using quasi-lumped components. Moreover, asymmetric structure with increased capacity VS-DPA compensate a relatively peak fundamental current due its deep class-C operation well extended back-off (OBO) range VS-DPA. To verify network, 3.3 - 4.2 GHz band implemented GaN HEMTs capacities 6 10 W. 5G new radio (5G NR) signal bandwidth 100 MHz peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) 7.8 dB, gain 8.2 9.1 DE 46.0 57.0%, ACLR better than -45 dBc after DPD linearization average 35.0 dBm achieved broad frequency GHz.
